Game Development Frustration

Posted by VisscaGuu - 3 weeks ago

Thinking about how i've been learning game dev for like, what, 6 years by now and i have not released a singular game, not even a tini tiny one, it saddens me a bit but maybe I'm overworking myself cuz like, i think maybe what i need a small team of friends who are willing to help and keep up with it! Cuz my main issue is that i lose motivation or start overthinking stuff and then i get noowhere <\3

Might start working again on my little td game about bugs and objects, would y'all be interested in seeing more abt it?

Here's some concept art for towers and enemies:

What game engine are you developing this in?

Godot 4, ive been learning it for quite a while and i think i have enough knowledge to start a project on it, i've made a few microgames on it but never released cuz its just sum unpolished learning projects.

@VisscaGuu Where are you having trouble exactly in the process? It sounds like you may have the basics down.

Its just that, i start a project, work a bunch on it, i share with people and hardly get enough interested, work a bit more, lose motivation, then i go do something else, then the project just sits there
This paired with the fact i've been unable to stop overthinking my coding, i always think "oh i think i should program this This way juuust incase in the future i need to use this for something" or me just generally not being able to think of a nice approach for a specific system

@VisscaGuu Hm, I wish I had a solution for that. Maybe try breaking it up into smaller goals to get your game playable to the end, then go back and clean it up the code? Otherwise you might remain just "shaving the yak" of code forever and nothing gets released.

Could be a good idea, making a whole plan for the main stuff i want in the game and working on it as sepparate tasks, i'll give that a shot, if you see any screenshots or gifs of the game then it means i'm officially back at it
